Locals travel back in time at Central Coast Renaissance Festival

The 29th Annual Renaissance Festival is in full swing. The event officially kicked off Saturday morning at Laguna Lake Park in San Luis Obispo. Organizers transformed the lake into the English Channel, the River Avon, and the Thames. Guests are invited to step back in time to the year 1585, when Queen Elizabeth I ruled England. Over 600 costumed participants will provide live entertainment. "We have parades, we have stage shows, comedy, juggling, singing, dancing, and the big event of the day happens twice, and that's the joust. It's a full joust on horseback where the lances break," said Rick Smith, the Festival's Media Coordinator. The festival continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
