Locals turn trash into art at Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center

The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center hosted its Rethink Trash Art Exhibit Saturday. Guests could check out art made from recycled materials found in the dunes area. "You have an itch, you need to scratch it. It's part of creativity, just something else to do. I hadn't seen it before, but it's almost like paint by numbers, just something to create, something to do," said Oscar Guevara, one of the featured artists. Organizers say 14 billion pounds of garbage ends up in the ocean every year. They hope the exhibit will make visitors think about the impact trash has on local beaches. The Dunes Center hosts activities every weekend. Next Saturday, they are hosting a Dunes Center Softball Tournament.
