Fire investigators in Lompoc are searching for a suspected serial arsonist after a carport was set on fire early Sunday morning.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 100 block of South K Street.

Investigators say the suspect lit a mattress on fire. That mattress was sitting between a boat and a car, which were also destroyed by the flames.

A man living in the house next to the carport says he immediately called 911 once he saw the flames outside his window. He was able to keep the flames away from the house until firefighters arrived.

Investigators believe the suspect is a man between the ages of 18 and 25.
