The popular high school sports website MaxPreps has released its preseason football rankings for the upcoming 2012 season. The Lompoc Braves are ranked 17th in the state.
The Braves are riding a 20 game winning streak and are the two-time C.I.F. and Los Padres League champions. They are also ranked #110 in the United States.
San Luis Obispo is the next highest ranked Central Coast team. The Tigers are tabbed #69 in California. Defending C.I.F. champion Arroyo Grande is ranked #100.
Templeton, which has made it to the semifinals in the last two postseasons, is ranked #132. Righetti is ranked #150, followed by Atascadero at #174, Cabrillo at #193 and Paso Robles at #222 to round out the eight highest ranked teams from the Central Coast.
The high school football season opens Friday, August 24. The season premier of Friday Night Highlights will be at 11:10 pm on August 24.
