Three Lompoc Police officers were honored today in Santa Barbara for excellence in law enforcement.
Agent Joseph Stetz, Officer Mark Powell, and Officer David Lamar were presented with the H. Thomas Guerry Award for Valor. In October, they risked their lives to rescue an elderly woman from a burning mobile home.
"We just ended up forcing entry, went straight to the bedroom where we could see her standing on a walker fully engulfed in smoke but we pulled her out. I actually got stuck. Then Officer Powell came in and took her from me and then I was able to get out of the trailer. Then officer Lamar came in after that and helped us get out too," said Agent Joe Stetz.
This is the 41st year the Santa Barbara Citizen's Council on Crime has presented the award.
