Cabrillo High graduate Duane Solomon, Jr. remains in contention for his first career national outdoor title as a professional. Solomon finished second in his 800 meter semifinal heat to advance to the final at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday night.
The 28 year old led his heat into the final 50 meters, but was passed at the end by Brandon Johnson, who crossed in 1:44.78. Solomon finished second in 1:45.07. The top four finishers automatically advanced to the final, which is on Sunday at 1:13 pm and airs live on KSBY.
Solomon, who finished fourth in the 2012 London Olympics, won his preliminary round heat on Thursday.
