Righetti senior volleyball player Brook Butler and Lompoc senior football player Nikko Hayes were named Northern Santa Barbara County male and female athletes of the week. The awards were handed out as they are each Monday during the school year, at the Athletic Round table in Orcutt.
Butler had 19 kills in a 3-2 loss against Nipomo on Monday, 21 kills in a 3-2 loss to Cabrillo on Tuesday and 15 kills in the Warriors 3-0 league opening win against Paso Robles on Thursday.
Hayes rushed 12 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns in Lompoc's 31-14 win against Dos Pueblos. Hayes received more carries then usual because primary running back Lavon Coleman was out with an injury.
The win was the Braves 24th straight. "With each win we just feel better and better. We just want to continue our success to the next week. Kind of use it as motivation for next week" said Hayes. Lompoc opens Los Padres League play against Morro Bay on Friday.
