Lompoc's Solomon wins Worlds tune-up race in Monaco

Lompoc native Duane Solomon looks prime for a medal in the men's 800 meter run at next month's IAAF World Championships in Russia. The 28 year old won a tune-up race on Friday at the IAAF Diamond League Meet in Monaco. Solomon, who captured his first USA Outdoor title last month, took an early lead and held on to win with a time of 1:43.72. France's Pierre-Ambrose Bosse made a late charge, but finished second by .04 of a second in 1:43.76. Spain's Kevin Lopez finished third in 1:43.93. The Monaco meet is the tenth stop of the year in the Diamond League. There's another meet next week in London. The World Championships open August 10 in Moscow, Russia. Solomon will likely not face world record holder and London Olympic Gold Medalist David Rudisha in Russia. Rudisha is recovering from a knee injury he suffered in May. His world record time is 1:40.91. Solomon finished fourth in the London Olympics.
