The California Highway Patrol identified the person killed in a crash on Highway 246 on Thursday as Skylar Kindschy, 17, of Lompoc.
Officers say Kindschy was driving eastbound on Highway 246 near Campbell Road at about 1:45 p.m. when he allowed his car to cross the double yellow lines, into the path of an oncoming car. The two vehicles collided head-on.
Kindschy died at the scene. The driver of the other car, Jocelyne Presson, 62, of Lompoc, was air lifted to a local hospital with major injuries.
Investigators are looking into what caused Kindschy to cross into the oncoming lane, but say alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Kindschy graduated from Cabrillo High School this past school year. He played on the school's baseball team.
