Lompoc woman receives Woman of the Year honor

California State Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian honored Cheryl Bedford Thursday as the 2013 Woman of the Year for the 35th Assembly District.

Bedford was recognized for her professional success and many charitable endeavors. She has owned the Sunset Auto Center in Lompoc since 1983. Bedford has also served as the President of the Central Coast Chevrolet Dealers Association and four terms on the Board of Directors for the California Motor Car Dealers Association. Locally, Cheryl has served two terms on the Board of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Lompoc Valley Redevelopment Corporation.

"In the Lompoc Valley the Bedford name is synonymous with giving and Cheryl has been the driving force behind those efforts. Residents of the Lompoc Valley are fortunate to have such compassionate and giving people living in their community," said Achadjian.

Throughout the years, Bedford has donated her time and several cars to raise money for charities, including the Lompoc and Cabrillo High Schools' athletic programs, local FFA programs and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The annual event is held during Women's History Month. Members of the State Assembly choose an outstanding woman to honor. The tradition started back in 1987.
