Lompoc's Youth Theater group will put on one of Broadway's most cherished musicals this weekend.
A cast of 35 kids from the group is performing Annie. They are all part of an intense three week summer day camp, where they learn singing, dancing, and acting from theater veterans. The students range in age from 4th grade through high school. Another 15 students work backstage taking care of costumes, set pieces, and props.
"It's a depression era piece and its tough economic times right now. it's a story that rings really true for our current situation right now and hopefully gives a message of joy and hope to the audience," said Director Joyce Mayhew.
This is Lompoc Youth Theater's second annual summer musical. Performances will be this Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Lompoc Civic Auditorium with a matinee at 2 p.m Saturday.
