A Long Beach man is in the hospital, after leading Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies on a high speed chase on Highway 101, South of Carpinteria.
Just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies received a call that a man had stolen a car from his girlfriend in the 800 block of Linden Avenue in Carpinteria. A half hour later, deputies spotted the car on Highway 101.
When they tried to stop the driver near La Conchita, they say 29-year-old Erick Balint sped off. Sheriff's helicopters were also brought in to help.
Balint finally ran off the road near the Main Street exit in Ventura County. He will be moved to the Santa Barbara County Jail after he's released from the hospital. He's facing various charges, including robbery, vehicle theft, driving without a license and domestic violence. Toxicology results are pending.
