The Lookout Fire is burning in the same area where the deadly Painted Cave Fire destroyed more than 400 homes back in 1990.

It broke out on a hot, dry and windy day, just like the weather has been on the Central Coast lately.

In just three hours, the fire would burn 5,000 acres.

A 37-year-old woman was killed.

It turned out a known arsonist set the fire, but no criminal charges were ever filed.

More than $250,000,000 in property was destroyed in the Painted Cave Fire.
