Lopez, Cuzick lead Titans by Pirates to maintain slim lead over Cabrillo in LPL

Vangie Lopez went 4 for 4 and Courtney Cuzick struck out 14 to lead the Nipomo High softball team to a 9-0 win over Santa Ynez on Tuesday.

The first place Titans improved to 9-1 in Los Padres League play and 17-3 overall. The defending league champions maintained their half game lead over Cabrillo after the Conquistadores beat Morro Bay 3-1.

The Titans scored once in the second inning on a wild pick off throw to first place that allowed Sierra Arguijo score all the way from the first base to give Nipomo a 1-0 lead.

Nipomo erupted for 7 runs in the third inning, which was fueled by a couple of Santa Ynez errors. Gianna Abatti ripped a run-scoring single, Selina Delfin added a 2-run single and Cuzick drove in 2 runs with a hit.

Cuzick finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI. The Penn recruit also threw a 3-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and 0 walks.

Delfin had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

The Titans return to action next Tuesday at Cabrillo in a first place showdown. Nipomo edged the Lady Conqs last season for the outright crown.
