The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says a small grass fire that temporarily threatened homes in Los Alamos Wednesday afternoon was caused by a permit burn that wasn't put out properly.
The fire started around 2:30 p.m. near the area of Bell and Augusta Streets. Fire crews were able to contain the three-acre fire in about a half hour. No homes were damaged.
