For years, a Los Osos girl told her parents her vision was not good, and she needed glasses. Doctor after doctor, the Buffaloe family was told their daughter just wanted glasses, but her eyes were fine.
"It was painful, very, very painful," said Morgan, 11.
Morgan began losing her vision when she was 6-years-old.
"I can only see out of one eye," she explained.
Her other eye is losing sight too.
"In the pit of your stomach you know that something is not right. Definitely look into it," said Lucrezia Buffaloe, Morgan's mom.
In April, Morgan was extremely sick. Her mom was persistent and wanted answers about her health.
"Ten days of antibiotics weren't working. She just didn't look right, and she was really tired," said Buffaloe. "We took her to the emergency room, and she got a CT scan.
"When I found out that I had the tumor it really scared me," said Morgan.
Her cancerous tumor sits between her optic nerves.
"It's an astrocytoma brain tumor that has blocked her optic nerves, and it has completely blinded her in her left eye," said Buffaloe.
Morgan has been receiving chemotherapy to stop the growth of the tumor. However, she is currently taking a break because the treatments have made her ill. But illness has not taken the brightness out of this girl who will start 6th grade soon.
"I am not alone in this situation at all," Morgan explained.
"Our community is wonderful. We have been here less than two years. They have had three bake sales and we have a Go Fund Me, and they have helped with that. We have people who stop by and make dinner for us," said Buffaloe.
The Buffaloe family has a mantra: "We got this," said Morgan. It's even embroidered on her hats.
"Never give up, never stop smiling," she said.
You got this, Morgan!
