Lumber company replaces "ugliest deck"

A San Luis Obispo family is getting a new deck, courtesy of an Arroyo Grande business. To celebrate 55 years in business, Burke and Pace Lumber held a contest to donate a new deck to the winner of an "Ugly Deck" contest. After narrowing it down to five finalists, they chose the deck submitted by Monica Jud of San Luis Obispo. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and moved back in with her parents, but their old deck isn't safe enough for her to use. "So being able to go outside on the deck and nature a little bit, and the sunshine, just in the safety of the deck and the safety of my environment will be lovely, will be great," she said. The new deck will be finished soon.
