Major accident shuts down Highway 1 north of Cayucos

A SIGALERT has been issued on Highway 1 just north of Cayucos after a crash on that roadway.

Witnesses tell KSBY News traffic on Highway 1 is backed up for miles as firefighters work to clear the scene of a two vehicle accident. According to the California Highway Patrol website, that accident was reported at about 2:15p.m. Wednesday, on Highway 1 just north of San Geronimo.

A SIGALERT was issued by emergency crews at 2:50p.m., saying that Highway 1 will be completely shut down for approximately 40 to 45 minutes.

According to emergency scanner traffic, those involved in the two vehicle crash had to be extricated from their vehicles and suffered moderate to severe injuries.
