A local girl struggling with a seizure disorder has a lot on her mind these days. Between traveling to northern California to see her doctor, and working hard to improve her mobility, she doesn't have a lot of time for fun. But with the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a local sorority, soon all of her wishes will come true.
It was a special surprise and a special tour, all for a special 11-year-old Sunday at Doc Burnstein's Ice Cream Lab in Arroyo Grande.
"When I got here, we walked in and everyone was standing here waiting for me," said San Luis Obispo resident Courtney Wing.
Members of Cal Poly's Chi Omega Sorority raised more than $10,000 this year to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation grant wishes for two local kids. Courtney is one of the young people who benefiting from their efforts.
But she didn't just get to taste ice cream.
Courtney and her family will soon be soaking up the sun in the Western Caribbean during an eight day cruise.
"It's wonderful what you guys do," Courtney said, choking back tears.
"I'm just glad God is just giving us a chance to go on this cruise as a family," Brendan, Courtney's brother, said.
A family, that with a little help from people like the members of Chi Omega, will be right on track for a happier, healthier new year. Chi Omega Philanthropy Chair Laura McWilliams says it's a rewarding experience for everyone involved. "It's even more rewarding for us to get to meet the Wish children and just hear their stories."
