Mallory delivers walk-off hit in 11th, SLO beats Righetti in Pac7 opener

Brandon Mallory hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eleventh inning to score Garrett Giovannelli to deliver a thrilling 1-0 win for San Luis Obispo baseball over Righetti in both teams' Pac 7 League opener on Tuesday. The extra inning game lasted nearly nearly two-and-a-half hours.

The Tigers improved to 1-0 in league and 3-3 overall, while the Warriors fell to 0-1 in league and 4-2 for the season.

Garrett Giovannelli led off the 11th with a single. The Warriors opted to intentionally walk RJ Hassey and Joey Benadiba. With one out, Mallory delivered his third hit of the game, but the most important one that resulted in a celebration for the Tigers.

Sinjin Todd threw 9 shutout innings for the Tigers. He allowed just 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. Giovannelli earned the win with two shutout innings. He struck out 3 and scattered 4 hits.

Blade Kearns threw 10 shutout innings for Righetti and allowed just 6 hits with 4 punch outs.

The two teams continue the 3 game series on Wednesday at Righetti. The series finale is Friday at Sinsheimer Stadium.
