HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) - California Highway Patrol officials say the bodies of a 9-year-old boy and his uncle were found in the waters of the California Aqueduct in Hesperia.
Sgt. Todd Weichers says firefighters conducted a swift-water rescue after officials were summoned by a 911 call at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
Weichers says CPR was begun and 48-year-old Fino Hernandez and Miguel Ortiz Jr. were taken to Desert Valley Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
A 6-year-old boy, Ortiz' younger brother, told officials his brother had fallen into the water and his uncle had tried to rescue him.
Weichers says the 6-year-old and his dog were returned to his mother, who had been looking for her children for an hour and a half.
