A Santa Barbara man is in jail, accused of beating a man unconscious over the weekend.

Officers arrested Ran Tefft, 22, in the 500 block of Chapala Street just after 2 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses said Tefft had punched and kicked a man during a fight at the intersection of Haley Street and Fig Avenue. Tefft told investigators the 26-year-old man had grabbed and broken his necklace, which he says was given to him by his late father.

Tefft was booked into jail.

The other man was taken to the hospital.
