A 20-year old man from Santa Maria is facing several charges after the California Highway Patrol says he ran away from officers and onto Vandenberg Air Force Base property.
The CHP says, around 3:40 PM on Monday, an officer stopped Luis Rodriguez Marquez on Highway 1 for speeding. During the stop, officers say Marquez ran across both lanes of Highway 1 and onto base property.
A CHP airplane and a Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office helicopter responded to help search for Marquez.
At around 5:20 PM, the CHP says VAFB Security Forces found Marquez. CHP officers took him into custody and booked him into jail on charges of resisting arrest and being an unlicensed driver.
The CHP says there was also a 17-year old girl in the car. She was taken to Juvenile Hall in Santa Maria and turned over to Child Protective Services.
