Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man accused of attacking his mother on Friday morning in Goleta.
The woman told investigators her son hit her with a sports racket and broke her phone, preventing her from calling authorities. She called the Sheriff's Office from a nearby gas station.
Sheriff's deputies and the S.W.A.T. team responded to the family's home on the 7400 block of San Blanco Drive, but the suspect, Felipe Barrera, 20, was not there.
They instead found and arrested Barrera at a home on San Milano Drive, a residence where Sheriff's officials said they'd had contact with him before.
When deputies arrived at the San Milano Drive home, a 17-year old resident told them Barrera was not there.
The teen was arrested for lying to law enforcement.
Barrera faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, destroying a communication device to prevent someone from calling law enforcement, and committing a felony while out on bail.
