Man arrested after police say he stole from vehicles in Santa Barbara

A 20-year-old man is behind bars after police say he stole property from vehicles in the Westside of Santa Barbara.

Around 12:30 Monday morning, the Santa Barbara Police Department says officers responded to San Andres and Pedregosa streets after receiving a call that someone was trying to open vehicle doors in the area.

When officers arrived, they say Eduardo Lazaro Murillo of Santa Barbara was hiding behind a parked car and ran away.

Murillo eventually fell and was taken into custody.

After searching Murillo, officers say he was in possession of a meth pipe with a usable quantity of methamphetamine, and a gym bag with various items believed to be stolen.

The person that reported Murillo affected a citizen's arrest after police say Murillo admitted to stealing from the parked cars.

Murillo was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.

He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Bail is set at $25,000.

Officers are still working to determine the owners of the stolen property.
