Man arrested after police say he tries to rob Santa Maria department store

A man is now behind bars after police say he tried to rob Macy's in Santa Maria.

Santa Maria Police say around 12 p.m. Sunday, a man wearing a ski mask and holding a crowbar-type object walked into the store and tried to break the glass on jewelry displays.

They say the man was not able to break the glass, and when loss prevention officers confronted him, the man threatened them with the crowbar-type object and ran away.

Officers say the loss prevention officers and a park ranger chased after the man and detained him at Main and Broadway.

The suspect, Anthony Lee Arguijo, 39, of Santa Maria, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

They say he was stll in possession of the weapon and ski mask.

Officers say no items were taken from the department store, but damage is estimated at $900.
