Man arrested on suspicion of burglarizing Santa Maria homes

A man is behind bars after police say he attempted to break in to three Santa Maria homes early Friday morning.

Santa Maria Police say Arthur Jackson, 29, from San Diego, showed up to a home in the 200 block of South Oakley around 5 a.m. and attempted to cut through a bedroom window screen. When the woman inside called 911, he ran away.

Police say they received another call 10 minutes later about a man inside a married couple's bedroom in their home in the 200 block of South Superior. When the husband confronted the man, police say he ran again.

And 10 minutes after the second call, police say a third person called 911 saying a man was walking in her rear patio area. Police say he also ran away when confronted by the caller.

Authorities located Jackson a short time later walking in the area of Benwiley and Main Street. The first two victims were brought to the scene of the arrest and made positive identifications. The third was not available.

Jackson was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and attempted burglary. Bail is set at $50,000.
