Santa Maria police officers investigate an accident that sent a pregnant woman to the hospital.
At about 3:45p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the intersection of Main St. and Broadway St. about a crash between a city bus and two other vehicles. They say 20-year-old Florencio Peralta was approaching that intersection, when he failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection as another driver was turning. Peralta reportedly struck the rear passenger side of the other driver's car, causing him to spin out of control and sideswipe the city bus.
Peralta's passenger was a pregnant woman. She told officers that she was having stomach pains, and she was taken to Marian Medical Center. Her current condition is not known. Meantime, investigators later determined that Peralta is unlicensed and an undocumented immigrant. He was cited for driving without a license and failing to stop at a red light.
