Man convicted of killing a former Lompoc police officer is sentenced to death

The man convicted of killing a former Lompoc Police officer and San Luis Obispo resident, is sentenced to death.
Alberto Alvarez has received the death penalty for the murder of Richard May.
That sentence was handed down Tuesday in a Palo Alto courtroom.
Last month, a jury found 26-year-old Alvarez guilty of first degree murder with the special circumstance of killing a peace officer.
May was shot to death while working as a police officer in Palo Alto in 2006.
He grew up in San Luis Obispo.
