The California Highway Patrol has identified the man who was killed in a head-on collision Monday morning in Orcutt. Twenty-two year old Julian Valdez of Guadalupe was killed when the pick-up truck he was driving collided with an on-coming vehicle on Betteravia Road, just west of Black Road.
The CHP says Valdez was traveling westbound on Betteravia Road at about 6:50a.m. Monday, when he swerved into the eastbound lanes of the road and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Valdez died at the scene.
The person traveling in the other vehicle involved was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. That driver was apparently riding in a truck belonging to Rancho Laguna Farms, a Santa Maria business.
Our KSBY News crew on the scene of the crash says Valdez was an employee of Food Maxx who had just finished up his shift at work and was headed home.
That's according to the Food Maxx manager on the scene. Check back to ksby.com and watch KSBY News tonight at 5 and 6 for more information.
