A man is in critical condition after being shot by Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies, early Saturday morning.
It happened around 3:00 am in the 4700 block of Andrita Street, in Goleta.
Investigators say deputies responded to several calls of shots fired in the area of Rosemead Street and Andrita Street, where neighbors reported seeing people running from the area.
When deputies arrived, they saw a man standing in the front yard of a home, holding a gun. That's when the man, they say, confronted deputies, several shots were fired, and the man was hit by gunfire.
Investigators are not saying if the man fired shots or how many deputies opened fire.
The man was taken to Cottage Hospital where he is in critical condition.
SWAT and a Santa Barbara County helicopter searched the area to locate any other possible victims or suspects.
They say several people are being held for questioning.
A reverse 911 call went out warning residents of the situation.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation. They have not released the name of the man shot.
