A man is in jail this morning after Santa Maria police say he carjacked a man.

The victim told police a group of men attacked him in the 1200 block of North Benwiley. One was reportedly armed with a baseball bat and stole the victim's car.

A short time later a Santa Maria police officer was traveling in the area of Alvin and Railroad when he witnessed a car crash into a curb.

Police say the driver, 18-year-old David Ledesma of Santa Maria, was arrested when they realized the vehicle was stolen.

Ledesma was booked on charges of vehicle theft, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking and driving under the influence.
