A Santa Maria man is recovering after he says two men beat him with a baseball bat, for no apparent reason.
Santa Maria police officers say the victim, 19-year-old Jose Rodolfo Mendoza, was riding his bike on the 100 blk. of W. Enos St. at about 10:00p.m. Wednesday night, when he was approached by two men who began beating him with a bat. Mendoza told officers the two suspects didn't say anything to him before they began beating him. He says he jumped off of his bike and ran away, but then came back to the spot a little later. His bike was still there, but the two suspects were gone.
Mendoza took himself to Marian Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
There is no description of the two suspects.
