A 55-year-old man is being transported to the hospital after his car went over the side of E. Camino Cielo, about 6 miles east of Gibraltar Road near Santa Barbara.

People in the area spotted a vehicle about 100 ft. over the side of the road, according to a spokesperson for Santa Barbara County Fire. Crews arrived on scene around 12:45 p.m. and were able to get the man out of the embankment using a rope system. Authorities believe the victim had been in the car around 24 hours.

The man was then flown by helicopter to La Cumbre Junior High School, and will be treated at a local hospital for serious injuries.
