The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office says a man had to be rescued from the ocean Saturday night after two people fell into the water near the Cayucos Pier.

Officials say they arrived at the pier around 8:45 p.m. after they received a report that three people were in the water there.

When deputies arrived, they learned two people had fallen off of the pier and into the water, and a third person jumped in to try and rescue them.

Officials say a man and woman were able to get to shore on their own, but another man had to be rescued.

He was taken to the hospital for observation.

Crews from CAL FIRE, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, the Cayucos Fire Department, and the Morro Bay Fire Department all responded to the scene.

Officials say the three people were in their early 20s.
