Many of the nearly one million adults who suffer a heart attack will need to go back to the hospital within the first 30 days.

A new study looked at 3,000 patients who were hospitalized for a first-time heart attack.

Researchers found 40% of patients were re-hospitalized for symptoms directly related to their heart attack.

Patients with conditions like diabetes and anemia were more likely to be hospitalized in the month following their heart attack, as well as patients who were hospitalized for a longer time initially or experienced complications during surgery.
