Many City offices in Santa Maria are taking the day off Friday.
Because of the recession, cities statewide are in the Mandatory Time Off Program.
This requires city offices to be closed one day a month from March to December.
This is the fourth of 10 required furlough days Santa Maria has taken this year.
Police and fire services are not affected by the program.
The next furlough day will be July 5.
