Mitch Martin shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors and lead the Arroyo Grande High boys golf team to a Pac 7 League Tournament win at Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles on Tuesday. The tournament victory clinched the Eagles' first league title since 1995. Martin earned League Most Valuable Player.
Josh Schneider also carded a 78 for Arroyo Grande, which shot an overall 398 on the day to win by 7 strokes over the Tigers.
San Luis Obispo finished second on Tuesday with 405 strokes led by Adam Zakaria's 78 and 79s from Kyle Kaminski and Kush Sikand.
Atascadero finished third in the tournament with a 413 led by Brandon Erickson's 76, while Brandan Pita's 77 led fourth place Righetti, which finished with a score of 432. Ryne Ortega shot a 79 for fifth place St. Joseph.
Scott Rigdon shot an 87 to lead sixth place Paso Robles, while Pioneer Valley finished last with a total of 475 led by Matthew Lima's 88.
The win solidified the Eagles' first title since 1995 with the league finals still set for Thursday. San Luis Obispo sits in second place overall, followed by reigning league champion Righetti in third, Atascadero in fourth, St. Joseph in fifth, Paso Robles in sixth and Pioneer Valley in seventh. Last year, AG led going into the finals, but lost the title to Righetti.
Seven players will advance to the CIF Individual competition. Five of those spots are already taken. Eight golfers, who have shot a 76 or better in one of the league matches, will compete for the final two qualifying spots at Thursday's League Finals at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Arroyo Grande, SLO, Righetti and Atascadero will compete in the CIF Team competition next Monday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Nipomo.
