The PCPA's 50th season is now underway with the first show in the newly renovated Marian Theatre.
"Mary Poppins," the high-flying musical that's taken Broadway by storm, is now playing on the Alan Hancock campus in Santa Maria.
Director and choreographer, Michael Jenkinson explains, the PCPA was lucky to get the rights.
"We're one of, I believe, eight companies in the country that got to do this show as it just closed on Broadway this past March. So, we're getting to put a stamp on it in a way that many companies won't get to in the future.
Jenkinson says the musical includes the old favorites, with new emphasis for some of the classic tunes.
"What's so wonderful about this new piece is that they have taken all this familiarity and put it into a new series of adventures. They all appear. 'Spoonful of Sugar,' 'Step in Time,' 'Jolly Holiday,' 'Let's Go Fly a Kite,' 'Feed the Birds,'... but they're all sort of in a new setting, introducing new characters to very, very familiar pieces. We haven't done our job if you're not walking out of here singing, 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.' " >
