Veterans from Bravo Company 3/22, 4th & 5th Infantry Division came together on Saturday to remember the fallen, but they also received a bit of a surprise.
The combat veterans fought in the longest single-day battle in Vietnam.
They were attacked by more than 2,000 Viet Cong, but ultimately defeated them.
The unit was also cited by President Lyndon B. Johnson for extraordinary heroism while engaged in military operations.
Saturday's event in Pismo Beach honored not only the men who died in battle, but also those who survived.
After the memorial service, a special "Thank You and Welcome Home" was given to the veterans at the event.
Men come from all over the United States attend the bi-annual service, which is always held at a different location.
Participants say they are thankful for the event, and consider it a blessing to see past friends that they fought with.
