A fly-by began the Peace Officers Memorial Service this morning at the Atascadero Veteran's Memorial. Officers from several law enforcement agencies turned out to pay their respects to fellow officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. This year, four were killed statewide.
"They go where others fear to go. They put the safety of the community before their own and they serve with dedication, compassion, purpose, and integrity," said Grover Beach Police Chief Jim Copsey.
The memorial is part of National Police Week taking place nationwide.
