San Luis Obispo-based MINDBODY is an online business management software company that helps get people moving, but now Mindbody wants its team members to do the same.
So the company posed this challenge: 90 days of wellness. The program, Evolve, is paid for by MINDBODY.
The cost per participant comes out to $2,200 and includes a medical screening, exercise programs/personal training sessions and nutritional evaluations.
"I had been an athlete for years, and then I had some health scares, I had cancer," said Mikaele Foley, a MINDBODY employee. "And that set me back quite a bit."
Foley is a former Rams player, but is now raising his family in San Luis Obispo.
"I am taking back this area of my life," he explained as he worked out at Rev SLO. "I found that I was not able to self-motivate at first, so having the trainers and the nutritionist, those things help to guide me and get me back on track. Now it's a commitment every day. If I don't get up and get there, then I don't feel right about myself."
In five weeks, Foley lost 30 pounds.
"You don't realize what a difference that is in your everyday experiences," he said.
For him, Evolve brings clarity and energy to the work place and at home.
"It is a commitment that MINDBODY gave to me as a person, and I have never had anything like this in the corporate world," he explained.
Ten percent of the MINDBODY staff volunteered to partake in the Evolve challenge.
"This is expensive, but it's something we see as well worth it," said Rick Stollmeyer, C.E.O. and co-founder of MINDBODY.
The 90-day challenge cost MINDBODY more than $160,000.
"It affects everyone in the organization. The enthusiasm is really palpable, and also it reflects our brand and who we are as an organization," said Stollmeyer.
"You have to look at life for the gift that it is and stay focused. You can either experience it, or you can just go through it, and this has given me the opportunity to experience life again and not got through the motions - this is the biggest gift I can have," said Foley.
Evolve was offered to any full-time employee who had a good review from their supervisor.
MINDBODY plans to keep the wellness challenge going after the 90-day trial.
