Minor injuries reported in forklift, catering truck crash

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Friday morning in Guadalupe after another accident involving a forklift in the Santa Maria Valley.

The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Highway 1, south of Thornberry Road.

California Highway Patrol says a forklift driver turned in front of the catering truck. The driver of the catering truck swerved to avoid a collision, but hit the back of the forklift, causing the catering truck to roll and end up on its side in a ditch, officials said.

Two people in the catering truck were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the forklift was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but at this time, officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

On Aug. 29, two people were killed and two others injured when a forklift collided with a car in Santa Maria.

The driver of the forklift in that crash, Daniel Castillo, 37, has been charged with four felony counts, including two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of driving under the influence causing great bodily injury.
