An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile is scheduled to launch Sunday from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The missile is going on a 4200 mile trip to the Marshall Islands as part of a test launch.
The base is checking the readiness, effectiveness, and accuracy of the weapon system.
The missile will launch sometime between 3:01 a.m. and 9:01 a.m. Officials say it will likely take off at the beginning of the launch window. They say it might be difficult to see, but the full moon will help. The best way to catch the launch is to scan the entire sky about 35 to 55 minutes before sunrise. You may see the sun's rays illuminate the missile's exhaust.
