A Santa Maria man missing since Sunday morning in Santa Margarita has been found safe. Cal Fire says six people started off on the Rinconada Trail off West Pozo Road around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

They got about four miles in when one of them dove into a creek after their dog and got swept away. One person decided to head back to the main road for help but never returned.

Cal Fire's Tactical Rescue Team reached the other five runners and hiked them back to safety. Finally around 6:20 p.m. crews found the missing 20-year-old man. They say he was suffering from hypothermia.

"They were running, they were doing like endurance running, so they're all dressed in shorts and tennis shoes and going out for a run," said John Richardson of Cal Fire.

San Luis Obispo County Search and Rescue crews helped with the search.
