After leading the Royals to their biggest win in recent memory, Mission Prep quarterback Tyler Baty is the latest Friday Night Highlights Player of the week.
The senior completed 14 of 23 passes for 276 yards and 4 touchdown passes. He connected with five different receivers, including Joey Hall for 5 receptions for 133 yards and 3 TD.
The Royals beat Rio Hondo Prep 47-14 to snap the Kares 14 game winning streak. Rio Hondo, the defending CIF champions, were the top ranked team in CIF's Northeast Division.
"It's pretty exciting, I bet it's fun to watch. It's extremely fun to play. We're pretty quick scoring and a lot of big plays so it's exciting and it's really fun," said Baty.
"What he's doing right now in the games is just really a culmination of all the hard work he's put in these last three years. Extra practices, throwing with the receivers after practice, throwing with the receivers during the off season, passing tournaments, extra board work, watching film," said head coach Chad Henry.
Baty has throw for 463 yards and 7 TDs this season. He has yet to throw an interception for 2-0 Mission Prep. The Royals play their first home game of the season this Saturday at 7pm against 2-0 St. Genevieve.
Other players considered for this week's award were Righetti quarterback Troy Prober, Lompoc running back Lavon Coleman and St. Joseph's Zak Karsh.
