The Mission Prep boy's soccer team remains on course to accomplish its mission, a perfect season. Under the guidance of head coach Bob Galarneau, the Royals are a perfect 17-0.
On top of beating smaller private schools, Mission has also beaten larger schools like Paso Robles, Cabrillo and Morro Bay. They skunked Saint Joseph on Thursday night 6-0 after beating them 9-0 to open the season.
"They all expect to come in here and swamp on us because we have 250 kids in our school. And it's cool to have this group of guys here that we can dominate," said senior Neal Hetzel, who's second on the team with 17 goals. Senior Aryan Eslambolipour leads all Royals with 21 goals scored.
The Royals have outscored their opponents this season 77 to 7. Their 4.53 goals per game average is now the second highest among all teams in California. "It's awesome. It's been a good senior year," said senior Brian McAllen. "We've had some decent seasons throughout the years but we finally have all of our guys playing really well."
The boys admit they feel some pressure to stay perfect. But they are taking it one game at a time and say winning the program's first CIF title is their ultimate goal. "After seeing the girl's squad win twice and get a banner here it's been motivation for us since sophomore year to get a banner up there and leave our legacy," said senior John Sansone.
Before the playoffs begin, Mission closes out the regular season next week with two games. The season finale is next Friday at cross-town rival San Luis Obispo
