The Mission Prep football team beat Desert, 51-30 in the CIF-SS, Northeast Division semifinals. The Royals led 21-14 at the half but extended the lead to 34-14 going into the fourth quarter. Senior running back Patrick Laird rushed 30 times for 258 yards and four touchdowns, he also had a 16 yard touchdown reception. For the season Laird now has 3,068 yards rushing and 36 total touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Patrick Miller completed 7 of 11 passes for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Evan Talbert had 6 catches for 192 yards and a touchdown.
Mission Prep will play at Salesian in the championship game. The team from Los Angeles beat Rio Hondo Prep, 35-20 in the semifinals. The Royals beat Salesian, 54-26 in last years semifinals before losing in the championship game.
