The jury in the trial for the San Luis Obispo city firefighter accused of knocking a man unconscious in the bathroom of a local bar has failed to reach a verdict.

The judge declared a mistrial Thursday in the case against John Ryan Mason, with 8 jurors saying Mason was not guilty and 4 saying guilty.

Both sides will be back in court on October 18 to determine whether to proceed with the case.
