"I can't believe it, it's a shock, its more than a shock," said neighbors of Gewynn and George Taylor.
The San Luis Obispo Sheriffs' Office says they're investigating a possible suicide pact.
Last night, park rangers say they found a car on the road just south of Spooner's Cove in Montana De Oro.
They say they found two people inside. According to the sheriff's office, Gewynn Taylor, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband George Taylor, 86, was arrested in connection to her death.
Both were highly involved in the community. They lived in Los Osos for more than thirty years, speaking out on many issues facing the area including the sewer project that is just getting under way.
"They're always together, I've never seen them apart," says neighbor Alissa Feldman.
And that's where they were found when police responded to Montana De Oro State Park late Monday night.
Gewynn taylor was dead, inside the family vehicle, her husband George Taylor, a retired LA area fire fighter was the only suspect.
The two were well known in Los Osos, standing together on many political issues facing the small community.
"Gewynn would come and represent her ideas, and George was always backing her up," says Feldman. "I'm shocked, I'm stunned, I don't even know what to say."
The sheriffs' office says George was taken to a local hospital and treated for unspecified injuries after Monday night's incident.
The couple that spent over three decades hand in hand, are now separated by a night filled with questions.
According to the people we spoke with, the couple never missed a board of supervisors meeting and didn't leave without voicing their opinion.
They have one daughter who lives in San Luis Obispo County
The preliminary investigation is still under way, and an autopsy will take place Thursday to determine a cause of death.
